H. Jackson Brown's work is a masterpiece!

To read his books simply makes you think and puts a smile on your face.

Thank you Mr. Brown.

live & learn & pass it on
this is a really awesome book! it has the cutest sayings about life and the ideal book to read when you're having a bad day or just need a lift. most of the sayings are true and from people of all ages, which is why it caught my attention. i had originally got this book browsing in a library on my college's campus and checked it out, not knowing what to expect. it has sayings in it like "if you keep doing what you've always done, you'll keep getting what you've always got" by a 51 year old; and that "even though its hard to admit, i'm secretly glad when my parents are strict with me" by a 15 year old, and that "a mule dressed in a tuxedo is still a mule" by a 70 year old and that "being a success at the office is not worth it if it means being a failure at home" by a 51 year old. after reading these passages, i'm positive that the average reader can look through the passages and find a lot that can and does relate to his or her life.

The Long, Bitter Trail: Andrew Jackson and the Indians (Critical Issue)
Published in Hardcover by Hill & Wang Pub (August, 1993)
Authors: Eric Foner and Anthony F. C. Wallace
Average review score:

Excellent, excellent, excellent
Simply the best work available on Indian Removal, in my opinion. It is highly regarded among academic historians. Wallace did a tremendous job of writing clearly and making the plight of the Indians understandable to anyone. It is short, it is lucid, it is interesting reading. Plus, it is balanced. This is not a work that treats Indians as childlike, passive victims, but it does convey the injustice and unnecessary hardships to which they were subjected. It also does not portray the government and non-Indian Americans simply as aggressors. It's an important work for understanding what happened to the tribes. It won't take a lot of your time, so do yourself a favor and read it.

A Book for Anyone
An Indian activist or just an amature historian, everyone should read this book. Though short, it gives an excellent narrative of the removal of Indians and their trama from the East by the American government. This book is amazingly well written and is for both students (like myself who read it in a class) or for casual readers. Please concider this book to find out more about the emerging stories of what really happened to Native Americans.

Looking Ahead With Living Trusts
Published in Paperback by Mallard Media Pub (June, 2000)
Authors: Galen F. Griepp, Sharon Stuart McRee, and Jay Jackson
Average review score:

I finally "got it!"
It seems like "living trusts" are a fad and I was somewhat cynical, but I also admit I didn't understand what they were. The book gave me the info I needed to work intelligently with a lawyer, which I really needed to do. Before I read the book I thought I might go to one of those do it yourself paralegals, which would have been a HUGE mistake. I took my knowledge and shared it with everyone in my family and now we are all very pleased that we've done estate planning that really takes care of all of our concerns.

Clears the fog and makes decision making seem easy.
Other books on subject were dense, overkill. This one is easy to read and very clear. Removes intimidation and preps you to make choices, talk with lawyer intelligently. Great diagrams and illustrations. Fast read.

Love Advice for Women
Published in Paperback by AdviceZone (14 February, 2000)
Author: Nathaniel Jackson
Average review score:

Eavesdropping on Love
Nat Jackson speaks for everyman --and woman --who wrestles with the joys and foibles of falling in and out of love and yearns for something more enduring --a "mature love," a lifelong friend, lover, companion. Inspired by his own experiences which he shares in an unpretentious style (so refreshing in this era of Mars-Venus-Godess "experts" on the human heart) Jackson is wise enough to turn to the real love gurus for advice on the dance between the sexes. Throughout, he includes illuminating nuggets of wisdom from thinkers and writers such as Chaucer, Ovid, Shakespeare, Plato, and Blake and gifted women like Jane Austen, Dorothy Parker, Virginia Woolf, Betty Friedan and Edith Wharton. These sages touch on everything from "Dating Advice for Women" to "Keeping the Love Alive." Love isn't stripped of its mysteries rather, like a fine wine, it's contemplated, celebrated, and savored for its paradoxes. (Check out page 115: "We need, when we love, really only this: to let each other go; for holding on is easy and does not have to be learned." Rainer Marie Rilke.)
Along with this wisdom there is Fun! The fun is that the reader gets to eavesdrop on centuries of conversations. Some women may protest a man entering this circle and sharing love advice for women, but Jackson freely admits that his views are subjective, not the final say, and does so without Hubris. I like this "Annie Hall" approach. As a reader I get to eavesdrop on love, on what appeals, from a man's perspective, and then I get to listen in on the sage women quoted throughout. It's a lively conversation.

You Can Judge a Book by its Cover
Love Advice for Women is a truly exquisite book, both inside and out. The cover design is striking, and what's inside is just as impressive. I bought the book for myself because I'm a classic literature buff, but I plan to give some as gifts to my friends who moan and groan about their love lives. I highly recommend this book as a gift because it's very attractive and also an interesting concept. The author seems to have done extensive research to come up with so many quotes about love, and even though it's not supposed to be a heavy-duty advice book, the quotes and commentary are surprisingly on target for giving one fresh ways of looking at dating and relationships. So, I enjoyed it not only from the literary sense but found it practical as well.

Love Letters (By Request 3'S)
Published in Paperback by Silhouette (August, 1900)
Author: Steve Jackson
Average review score:

The McKee legacy will hook you....
In Love Letters, Lisa Jackson brings the reader the first three McKee books which begin right after the 'ruler' of the family, Jonah McKee dies.

A IS FOR ALWAYS...Max McKee has never forgotten Skye Donahue. Even though she left him without a word, taking a $25,000 pay off with her from his father. It never mattered to Max that Jonah, his father, told him that Skye was all wrong for him. All he knew is that when he started falling in love, nothing he could do could stop it. Now Skye has returned to Rimrock after a seven year absence. Coming back as a doctor for the local clinic, Skye hopes to avoid Max as much as possible. Though Skye has convinced herself that she doesn't love Max anymore, one look at him is enough to show her how wrong she is. There is nothing she wants more than to be with Max, but she knows that she can't give him what he wants, namely children. The story of Max and Skye will warm your heart as Lisa Jackson shows the reader what lengths two people have to go through to finally end up together.

B IS FOR BABY...Beth Crandall spent one unforgettable night with Jenner McKee. When she woke up, he was gone, but he left something with her that means more to her than anything in the world, her son Cody. When she recieves a letter from Jenner's grandmother telling her that Jenner is paralyzed and needs something to bring him back to life, Beth wants to refuse. When she reads that his grandmother intends to fight her for custody of Cody if she doesn't, she heads to Rimrock...and finds that her girl's infatuation for Jenner has turned into a woman's love. Jenner can't believe that he would have forgotten the siren that claims he sired her son, and won't take a dime of his money. He knows that he has nothing to offer Beth or Cody, but he finds that he can't let them go. When they almost die in a murder attempt, Jenner realizes that life is too short and he would be a coward to give up on the chance to have a family and love.

C IS FOR COWBOY...The murder investigation of Jonah McKee all comes to head in this third book of the McKee series. When Casey McKee is kidnapped, Jenner calls in a favor from an old friend, Sloan Redhawk. Whether from his Native American blood, or just good detecting skills, Sloan is able to find Casey and fall for her all in one day. He has something in his past, however, and won't take a chance on love again. Sloan is the exact kind of man that she has always imagined herself settled down with. The problem is that he's out of her life as soon as they find a murderer. Even though she wants to fight for him, she knows that nothing she can say will convince him to take a chance on love again. Sloan and Casey come together at a time of danger and make something beautiful out of him. This book is about overcoming old heartbreaks and not passing up new love.

If you can find this book, you should definetly pick it up!

Love Letters
I love having the 3 books in one. This was an excellent book. I was on the edge of my seat through the whole book. I could not put it down. I read it in 2 days and I work. I love the Lisa Jackson. She is a very good writer. I encourge anyone to buy this book it is worth it.

The Making of Late Antiquity (Carl Newell Jackson Lectures)
Published in Hardcover by Harvard Univ Pr (March, 1993)
Author: Peter Brown
Average review score:

Excelent introduction to the Late Antiquity
Brown does an excellent job of introducing the reader to the period of late antiquity in this work. He is able to cover the major political, social and philosophical transition of the Roman Empire of the Antonines to the emergence of the Christian Succesor States with clarity, and accuracy. Although this work does not take an indepth look into any of the many subjects that fall in this period, it is an excellent overview, and maintains a level of scholarship that is almost unparalled in a work of this nature. The book is documented to an excellent degree, so that even the most critical reader can see where it is that Brown is comming from. I would recomend this book to anyone from the avid scholar to the most casual reader.

An excellent introduction to Late Antiquity
Brown is able to establish the foundations for anyone interested in late antiquity with clarity and scholarly depth that is unparelled in the field. This book, although taking a broad picture of the period, and focusing on a shallow over view, rather than taking an indepth look into any perticular aspect of the period, is still scholarly enough to interest even the most particular historian, but will catch the interest of the beginer also. Browns conclusions are well thought out, and are based on an extensive, and acurate picture of the period. The documentation is incredible, hundreds of documents are quoted, and carefully indexed, in a book under 200 hundred pages, so the most nitpicky readers can see exactly where Brown is comming from. This should be the model for broad view scholarly work, this is truly an excellent work.

Matchbook: Five Minute Thrillers/100 Books, Answer Key, 20 Cassette, and Cassette Player
Published in Hardcover by Lake Pub Co (January, 1999)
Authors: Bernard Jackson, Susie Quintanilla, and Globe Fearon
Average review score:

This is exactly what we need.
I had a chance to pick up couple tapes and matching brochures from local library. The first impression was: This set perfect helps people with ESL to improve their listening skills and word power. Now I want to buy and have my own brochures with matching tapes. But the drawback is, that according Amazon.com I have to buy all set together for $400, that for me personally is unaffordable. Why authors and publisher can not split set of 100 brochures and 20 tapes on smaller units at most 2 or 5 brochures and tapes in unit. It would cost probably $10-$20 per unit and many people could afford to buy them. Thank you for your creativity. Lev.

Great for advanced ESL listening comp. practice.
While looking for supplemental materials for an advanced listening/speaking class in our intensive language program, I came across 2 stray tapes called "Five-Minute Thrillers". The students found them very interesting and challenging. Here's what I liked: the "depth" of the English; well-written stories that maintained interest; the vocabulary and idiomatic expressions; clear, well-produced sound; good, clear voices; a lot of potential for follow-up conversations. This is a combination rare to find among ESL audio materials. I think I would have liked them even better had we had access to the accompanying written materials (workbooks, etc.) I was delighted to see that they are still available.

Author: Frank Everson Vandiver
Average review score:

Still the best
After all that has been written about Jackson, Vandiver's treatment is still the best. Highly recommended.

The definitive Thomas 'Stonewall' Jackson biography
This is an essential book for anyone's personal library. Smart, concise, well-illustrated, and comprehensive it tells the story of one of early America's greatest field commanders. Never engaging the question of North versus South and the issues that sculpted the Civil War, Vandiver focuses on the man, his legend, and the simple values he built his life around.
